Mild weather and overcast skies greeted the 40 competitors who gathered on Sunday, 5th February 40 minutes drive south west of Nowra, NSW, to contest the Danjera Creek Dam round of the 2006 BASS Electric Series. Fishing had been reasonably tough leading up to the event, with abundant small bass but very few 30 cm-plus scorers on tap after high winter flow rates last year enabled many of the impoundment’s mature fish to escape downstream.
In the final wash up, only 11 competitors managed to secure point-scoring bass on the day, and just 15 fish were presented to weighmaster, Ron Croker, at 1PM.
ABT regular and NSW Southern Highlands resident, Scott Towner, took out the round with a two bass limit weighing 1.18 kg, just 60 grams ahead of Scott Anderson in second place, with 2/2 for 1.12 kg. John Daly finished third with 2/2 for 1.04 kg. These three anglers, along with Dean Edwards in fourth position and Brian Blackman in fifth all qualify to compete in the BASS Electric Convention in September this year.
Big bass for the round was taken by Matthew Thomas and weighed in at 790 grams, reflecting the small size of fish encountered this year at Danjera.
Most of the bass landed were taken on lipless crankbaits and small spinnerbaits, with soft plastics and fly also accounting for several captures.
Full results will be available soon.
