2004 BASS Pro Female Angler of the Year, Sue Fleming, took out the Lake Macdonald BASS Electric comp on May 08. At the event, five of the 15 bass weighed bumped the scales to between 1.75kg and 2kg, reinforcing that Macdonald is one of SEQ’s best big bass dams.
Sue’s total for her two bass bag was 3.20kg. She caught her fish on Bassman spinnerbaits cast around the lily pads in Bass Bay. Her biggest fish went 1.75kg.
Hot on Sue’s heels was another local angler, Peter James. As the reigning Lake Macdonald champion, Pete had big shoes to fill, and he didn’t disappoint. His 2 bass bag on 3.17kg missed out on the top spot by just 30 grams. Pete’s big bass weighed 1.85kg. Pete used spinnerbaits and beetle-spins around the dam wall.
Burpengary’s Dale Ianna placed third with 2.82kg, which included the event’s Big Bass of 2.02kg. Dale landed 8 bass for the session casting spinnerbaits around the weed edges in the Three Ways.
Sue’s partner, Paul Fleming’s 2.4kg bag landed him fourth spot. Fishing from the same boat as Sue, Paul landed his bass on a 1/2oz black spinnerbait with a black/purple/green skirt.
Rounding out the top five was Yandina’s Scott Cameron. Scott landed a single 1.85kg bass on an Ayu Jackall TN60, casting to the weed edge between the pump-tower and the dam wall.
I’d like to thank all competitors for turning up, despite the miserable weather. The event helped raise monies for fish stocking in the lake via the Lake Macdonald Fishing Club.
