Brisbane’s Colin Singleton again outclassed the opposition by claiming a hard earned and close victory at Wivenhoe Dam. He bagged out early and continued to catch quality fish all day to accumulate an incredible 4.80 kg of bass with only 50 grams separating his best fish at 2.45 kg from Big Bass winner Peter “Carrot” Keidge’s 2.50 kg horse.
Colin said he used long casts to steep rocky banks and points and submerged structure. He stated that he used an ultra slow retrieve with his Bassman spinnerbaits adding regular pauses. “Most of my fish took the bait on the pause.” He said.
Peter Keidge adopted a similar style of retrieve using a silver and purple Jackall lure. He fished along a bank in about 16 feet of water and agreed that most of the fish were hitting his lure on the pause.
The day started badly with the weather closing in, however became by far the most successful event at Wivenhoe with 34 fish caught by the 39 anglers in contrast to last years three fish total. The excellent quality of the bass caught and the ever present possibility of a 4.00 kg monster, will no doubt encourage anglers to attend the next Wivenhoe event.
