After an unsettling day of rain, dawn broke over Lake Moogerah to reveal a sunny still morning. 34 anglers launched their boats and gathered at the start line.7 am rolled on and the boaters scattered across the lake. On completion of the six hours, 24 competitors weighed in 42 bass in total, with reports of the odd yellowbelly and even a cod caught.
In the end Adrian Manolea took out top honours with a 2.530kg bag. Manolea and his dad fished the timber opposite the ramp in 8 meters of water using Impact tackles skinny jig heads rigged with 3 inch Keitech soft plastics on a Steez combo. The key to the technique was casting close to the timber.
In second place was Darren Love with a 2.340 kg bag. Lowe fished in the same area of timber as Manolea, but targeted fish in 2 meters of water. Love used Jackall chubbies in gold/black and black/orange. Love’s outfit consisted of a DSR 820 Loomis rod with a Daiwa 2500 sol reel spooled with 8 lb braid and 6 lb leader.
In third place was David West with a 2.190 kg bag including the event big bass of 1.615 kg. West used a Jackall mask vibe hopping it through a bait ball in approximately 10 meters of water. Rounding out the top 5 was Brendan Deurloo in 4th place and Adrian Wilson in 5th who took out the option up. Well done to all anglers and finally a big thanks to my good friend Rory Saint for all his assistance…see you all at the convention.
