Despite extremely windy and cold conditions the third Bass Bounty was another very successful weekend. A total of 22 teams braved these conditions to make it a very tightly contested competition.
Session one victory went to the Red Hot Jackall Bros, consisting of Harry Watson, Dave Young and Angie Comino, who brought back to the weigh master a full bag of two fish weighing 1.68kg. Narrowly defeating the second place getters, Smak Lures, comprising of Paul Cooper, Dylan Mott and Jaimen Tunstall, with a limit of 1.23kg. They were followed by Team Tomcat (Matt Johnson and Ray Knight) in third place with a 1kg fish. The young family of Graham, Ryan and Ben York – team Hook up – took out the family prize for session one with a small bag of 400gr.
As session one ended competitors knew that session two would be even tougher, as conditions reached a level that had not been experienced at the dam for a very long time. This didn’t stop first place getters, Wayne’s World (Freddy Sawyer snr and Freddy Sawyer jnr), from cashing in on their two fish with a total of 1.29kg, closely followed by the consistent Jackall Bros (1.19kg). In third position was Black Pearl (Eric Marsh and Trevor Smith) with a catch of 1.09kg. This cheered them up considerably following the windy demolition of their campsite and the loss of their blue dog off his chain! The family winner for second session was team Ploughman (Bill ‘the wildman’ and Cindy ‘the garden gnome’ Schloss) with 470gr, and second was Bass to Barra (Matthew and Monique Mott).
With the third session came a lessening of the winds but a chill factor of -6 degrees. The leader board resembled that of previous AFC championships. With discussion from the Saturday night briefing anglers took to the water with lipless crank baits on their minds. This was prompted by knowledge gained that a slow lift rather than an erratic hop across the bottom was successful for most catches from the previous day. Team Green Machine (David and Courtney Green) effectively applied this knowledge to take out first place with a total catch of 1.64kg. Team Bass to Barra came in second with 1.38kg and Jackall Bros were third with 1.29kg. This gave Jackall Bros the overall victory total of 4.16kg and total prize money of $705. This included the prize for the big bass. The overall family prize had to be shared between Green Machine and Bass to Barra. Highest money winners were Jackall Bros ($705), Green Machine ($270), Wayne’s World ($175) and Bass to Barra ($165).
Bass Bounty would like to thank all competitors for a great weekend and look forward to seeing everyone at the fourth round at Somerset dam(kirkleigh) on the 1st and 2nd of August.
