With perfect conditions greeting anglers at Toonumbar Dam, the field of 23 anglers set out to tempt a bass and win their way into the BASS Electric Convention to be held later this year.
Twelve fish were caught and weighed in by the anglers with Ballina’s Adrian Melchior claiming victory on the day.
Melchior, unlike many others, rose to the occasion landing 15 fish, with a two fish limit of 1.6kg. Melchior used a Megabass Vibration X Ultra in Blue Gill colour, which are due to arrive on Australian shores in the coming months. Melchior also took out Big Bass with a neat little 0.84kg bass landed on the same lure. Melchior’s tackle consisted of a Daiwa TD Sol reel with 15lb TD braid matched to a Samurai rod. Fishing a creek bed with water depths ranging down to 15ft, melchior fished the Megabass lure deep and slow to draw the bass out with a slow roll.
Second place was hard fought between Steve Ebeling and Jesper Noiesen. On count back Steve took second place using a 3″ Slider grub in Blue and Chartreuse on a beetle spin fished close to the bank.
Jester came home in third place by fishing 500m of bank for the entire session using white spinnerbaits. – Danny Robinson
